![]() From deep caverns, to water-filled ruins, right down to the dark forests and ancient alters, no two areas look the same, and they all show off the talented skills of the artists who obviously reveled in creating this world. That being said, thanks to the dark and highly detailed artstyle, every area in the game looks downright beautiful. Just keep in mind, this is a mid-90s adventure game, so a lot of times, there's no real explanation about what you should do. This is definitely a game that rewards exploration. It’s wonderfully clean and much more listenable because of that.Much like Super Metroid (which had been released earlier that year), the Ghoul Realm is made up of multiple areas with tons of hidden items, secrets and routes off the beaten path that lead to powerful items or abilities. Those used to a rougher black metal kind of production will find themselves pleasantly surprised by this record. Bleak black metal with a touch of doom dished out in a wonderfully clean way. ![]() The name of this band alone conjures up images of deep and brooding heaviness so its no real surprise that is exactly what we get. ![]() “Firebrands and Ashes”, Crom Dubh’s second full-length for Ván Records, chronicles the horrors of a world teetering on the brink of self-immolation, and the bloody chain of events that brought us to this point. The band’s debut LP, “Heimweh” came in 2015 and developed the themes established on “Deifr” by focusing on the life-cycle of the individual. Crom Dubh were formed in London 2003 and released two demos before the atmospheric second-wave black metal EP “Deifr” in 2010, which channelled ancient myth and legend into a meditation on the rise and fall of civilisations.
